Jonathan Rosenbaum for the Chicago Reader:
An actress making a pacifist propaganda film in Hiroshima…
Acquarello, author of Strictly Film School:
A Parisian actress filming an antiwar public service announcement in Hiroshima…
Kirsten and I are having Thanksgiving alone in Baltimore this year. But, instead of getting depressed, hiding under the blankets, getting drunk on wine, and weeping to her mom on the phone, she’s in the kitchen joyfully humming, bragging to her mom via text, and cooking the most glorious feast of my life. She’s made/is making:
Brined Organic Turkey
Sweet Honey Dinner Rolls
Orange Zest Cranberry Sauce
Sourdough Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
Candied Sweet Potatoes, Sauteed with Carrots
and Pumpkin Cheesecake
Meanwhile, I’m in our room/watching her knead dough, doing nothing, snacking on the homemade graham crackers she baked for her pie, and looking like a generally lazy ass. In short: Kirsten is awesome and I am not.
Tomorrow’s dinner is going to be awesome, just like its cook. We are going to get so drunk and so food drunk. I hope people come to see my thesis presentation in February. I hope everyone has awesome Thanksgivings. Parade, parade, parade, parade, Home for the Holidays, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.
I wish I had a special copy of Slacker that ran forever. Just infinite ’90s nostalgia. College kids and twenty-somethings were so much cooler when I wasn’t one.
